И статья на английском о шоколадках, на ФБ был горячий разговор, который иногда возобновляется. Очень помог фильм из фотографий, когда то сделанный Светланой Матвеевой и переведенный на английский и немецкий языки
There is about chocolate -
In the pincher-schnauzer group, which further produced two different breeds – pinchers and schnauzers – the brown color always took place. It is settled among dobermans and zwergpinchers. And being recessive, came to schnauzers from this group.
As well known, at the very beginning of the breed development in Germany, different color dogs actively assisted – black-yellow, brown with yellow spots, black with yellow, light, grey, brown spots, grey, hare, elk color and the dogs with the similar colors are registered in the German Pedigree book (herd book) as the ancestors of the breed.
The founder of zwergschnauzers was registered PRINZ VON RHEISTEIN, born in 1903, black-yellow color.
The first two standard colors among zwergschnauzers were black and pepper/salt. Much later two other colors were accepted – black/silver and white. It is logical to assume that the breed having such variety of standard colors and having different color ancestors cannot be limited by currently registered colors and the brown/tan color is also inherent in this breed as much as all the other accepted colors.
The new color appearance among zwergshnauzers proves the contemporary tendency in breeding as the breed is constantly develops and the new colors take place. Birth of brown/tan zwergschnauzers is regulary noticed in different countries.
Therefore the allele of brown color in genome of zwergschnauzers is quite clear. Certainly, breeding of schnauzers in the traditional black-grey color range has affected the appearance of the allele b, but the breeders still cannot get rid of it completely.
Chocolate/tan color of zwergschnauzer genetically comes as brown/tan color.
This color becomes formed by genetic formula atat bbcchcchD-Em-kk.
The latest researches of molecular-genetic aspects of color genetics among dogs show that the gene of brown pigmentation is not responsible for production of any particular brown pigmentation. It is responsible for the way the black pigmentation is packed (fixed).
When the dominant B is present, the pigment is packed in oblong shaped granules, which are sitting tightly in the hair. And visually the black color can be seen.
When the recessive b, pigment is packed in the round granules, which are packed less tightly in the hair and the brown color is obtained.
In Russia in 1994 there was fixed that black/silver zwergschnauzers had puppies of brown/tan color and they were called chocolate/tan. Their color fits the conception about brown.
The dogs have the brown color on the body and the head, brown skin coverage, nose, edge of the lips and eyes, paw pads. The places where black/silver dogs have light color patches, these dogs also have the cream patches. Therefore the color is similar to the one in other breeds that is called brown/tan (ex. Dobermans).
Starting from 1994 during 17 years we have been registering the birth of puppies with chocolate/tan color. They were born from black/silver zwergschnauzers of different lines in different cities, that allowed to creat several different families.
Many enthusiasts of this color appeared in different Russian cities including Moscow, Murmansk, Tyumen, Kirov, Irkutsk, Bratsk, Omsk, Angarsk. Due to this we were able to exchange the breeding dogs from different breeding lines.
In Moscow the main livestock was born from imported black/silver zwergschnauzer male from Czech Republic Dick Vechny Rival. His offsprings Santa Knyrys Reksi Brown and Santa Knyrys Khalva in Chocolate became the founders of the families. Themselves and their offsprings mated with chocolate/tan zwergschnauzers and had chocolate/tan puppies.
In Bratsk in 1999 there were two chocolate/tan puppies born from two black/silver zwergschnauzers. One of them (A-Chip iz Sladky Alahip) became a forefather of the whole line of chocolate/tan zwergschnauzers and his daughter Sangria iz Sladky Alahip became the founder of the family.
In Irkutsk the family from Tsveriz Milagris (born 17.06.2000 from two chocolate/tan gods) was created. In this breeding there were mainly used three of her daughters: Chocolate Daisy, Loydis (born from chocolate/tan male A-Chip iz Sladky Alahip) and Tracy Uzhnoye Tango (born from chocolate/tan Burgon’ iz Sladky Alahip).
The further breeding was built on crossing (mating) of grandchildren of Tsveriz Milagris between themselves. The dogs from other lines and families are also used. Currently the grand-grandchildren of Tsveriz Milagris are growing.
In Angarsk there is a family of foreign breeded chocolate/tan bitch (Santa Knyrys Femida), she only mated with chocolate/tan zwergschnauzers.
In Severodvinsk there is a family of Delinda iz Doma Defransh, chocolate/tan bitch born from two chocolate/tan parents, in Kirov – a family of Tsveriz Zlata, in St-Petersburg – a family of Moy Gnom Kroshka.
Therefore in the period from 1994 more than 300 puppies were born and more than 8 families were created.
Chocolate/tan dogs are absolutely healthy, some of them are already 13-14 years old. During 17 years of breeding zwergschnauzers of only black/silver and chocolate/tan colors were used. From two chocolate/tan dogs only chocolate/tan puppies were born which indicates on the recessive gene in this color. We do not have a case of other color dogs being born. Anatomically the temperament and other features of this breed are fully according to the breeding standards of zwergscnauzer, only differ in color (genetically the gene B is replaced by gene b). Sometimes they exceed (show better than) the zwergsnauzers of other colors.
According to the describtions of these dogs by different experts including the specialists in this breed and interexperts, chocolate/tan zwergschnauzers demonstrate the full accordance to the standards and do not have any signs of degeneration or dwarfism.
Their breed is also proved by many titles received by chocolate/tan dogs.
These dogs could be called a new breed, coming from Russia, but it would deprive the zwergshnauzer breed of part of the dogs, which really belong to them and appeared only by mating of zwergschnauzers between themselves, no other bloods we had within the last 17 years. As the dogs born from zwergschnauzers they have a full right to be called so.
These dogs also cannot be called as defective by color for black/silver, as is seen at birth that they have brown nose and paw pads, the body coat is brown. There was no case registered of these dogs turning into black/silver as adults and back. In addition they have a very good positioning of undocked tail and undocked ears which also proved their clear breed.
Chocolate/tan gene is not connected neither with lethal genes nor with genetic eye diseases. The percentage of dogs with psychic problems is not any higher than other colors of the breed species.
Therefore the cynological proves of use and breeding results is the presence of large livestock of this color dogs with the pedigrees, their participation in dog shows and presence of excellent marks and titles, including 50 champions and junior champions of Russia and Club, in spite of all the difficulties of receiving the titles connected with the out-of-standard color.
The appearance of the new color among zwergschnauzers will surely raise the interest within zwergschnauzer lovers and followers and should lead in the breed popularization as long as the grouth of the amount of zwergschnauzer lovers and followers.
We kindly ask you to examine the possibility of acceptance and addition to the standard of chocolate/tan zwergschnauzers as it was earlier done for black/silver and white zwergschnauzers.
